Frequently Asked Questions

We believe in radical honesty about timelines, customs, and what we can and can’t control.

A Note on Honesty

We answer these questions candidly — including the parts that aren’t in our favor. Customs timelines, potential inspections, and delivery limitations are real parts of shipping to Haiti. We believe you deserve to know this before you ship, not after. If you have a question not covered here, call or WhatsApp us.

Shipping to Haiti

We pick up across Tampa Bay and Central Florida, including: Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Bradenton, Orlando, Kissimmee, Lakeland, and Plant City. Call us to confirm your specific location.

We ship Haiti-bound cargo from Port Tampa Bay and PortMiami, depending on the sailing schedule and your location. We use our own trucks to transport your cargo to the port — no third-party carrier on that leg.

Customs & Inspections

Port verification and customs clearance in Haiti is managed by Haitian port authorities and customs officials (Ladwann) — not by VSI. We cannot influence the pace of inspection, the order in which containers are cleared, or which containers are selected for detailed review.

Once a container enters the verification process, our role is to receive updates and communicate them to you. We have no ability to expedite Haiti-side customs.

Prohibited or restricted items may be confiscated by Haitian customs. Additional fees, duties, or legal consequences may be passed to the shipper. VSI is not liable for confiscated items resulting from prohibited goods in a shipment. This is why we strongly recommend reviewing our Shipping Policy before packing.

Delivery & Pickup in Haiti

No — in-home delivery is not guaranteed. Some neighborhoods are not accessible by truck due to road conditions, safety, or other operational limitations.

For Port-au-Prince, common drop-off is in the Tabarre area. For Cap-Haïtien, delivery reaches many areas but access varies by street. Final drop-off location may change based on ground conditions at the time of delivery.

Yes. Once your container clears port verification and items are processed into our warehouse, you can arrange pickup directly. We’ll notify you when items are ready and provide pickup instructions. Warehouse pickup is available at our Cap-Haïtien location.

Yes. After your items arrive at our Haiti warehouse, you have 3 days to arrange pickup or delivery before storage fees begin. Storage fees vary based on the size and quantity of your items. We will communicate the fee schedule when your shipment is ready.

Payment & Pricing

Pricing depends on the size, weight, and type of cargo. Boxes and barrels are typically priced per item or by cubic foot. Full containers (FCL) are priced as a complete unit. WhatsApp us for a custom quote — we’ll ask about your cargo and provide pricing quickly.

Yes. Delivery fees can be paid either in the U.S. or in Haiti. However, delivery must be fully paid before items are loaded for delivery. Payment can be arranged with our Haiti team when items arrive at the warehouse.

Trucking & Drayage

Yes. VSI owns its trucks and employs its own drivers. This is a deliberate part of our business model. We believe in controlling the truck leg — not subcontracting it — so we can be directly accountable for container moves at port.

We serve Port Tampa Bay, PortMiami, and Port Everglades. We offer port pickup, port delivery, empty container drop-and-load, and empty container returns at all three locations.
